About Kayleigh Junz
Education
​
Kayleigh Junz graduated Magna Cum Laude in December 2020 from The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. This degree certification covers any music class, K-12. Through her specific program Kayleigh specialized in Concentrations for Voice, Choir, General Music, and Special Education.

Musical Leadership
In her time at Crane, Kayleigh participated in numerous opportunities for music making and professional development outside of her coursework. She performed in and served as the Vice President for Stay Tuned A Cappella, before being hired by Clarkson University as the music director for their a cappella groups in 2018. Kayleigh served as the Vice President for Crane’s chapter of ACDA (The American Choral Directors Association) from 2018-2019. She also founded ACDA’s Lab Choir, to give choir students an opportunity to explore culturally relevant repertoire and more experience conducting an upper-level ensemble. Kayleigh served as President for Crane’s NAfME (National Association for Music Education) Chapter for 2019-2020. She was instrumental in organizing and running several conferences, workshops, and many more professional development programs and educational opportunities. Kayleigh was an active member of Sigma Alpha Iota, Potsdam’s only professional music fraternity, from Spring 2018-Spring 2020, and served on several committees, most notably as the chapter’s Music Director in Fall 2019.

Honors

In March 2020, Kayleigh was nominated and recognized by the Music Education department as a “Crane Woman in Music”. The women honored were “the most talented and innovative women Crane music education students who match the ideals of founder Julia Crane.” (presented by Dr. Caron Collins, Chair of Music Education, Crane School of Music). In May of 2020, she was also awarded the Sigma Alpha Iota Collegiate Honor Award, which “recognizes a Sigma Alpha Iota collegiate member for outstanding musicianship, scholarship, and fraternity service.” (presented by Professor Jennifer Kessler, Gamma Delta Chapter Advisor).

Performance Experience

At Crane Kayleigh performed in Crane Chorus, Phoenix Club, Hosmer Choir, Potsdam Community Chorus, and the Crane Flute Ensemble. Kayleigh studied Voice in the studio of Dr. Lorraine Yaros Sullivan for 8 semesters, and completed her performance sequence in Spring of 2020 with her 30 minute recital. Her Senior Recital featured works by Clara Schumann, Enrique Granados, Sara Bareilles, Richard Rodgers, and more. She was also cast and performed in the annual LoKo Arts Festival Broadway Showcases for 2018, "The Golden Age of Broadway", and 2019, "LIGHT: Broadway Musicals of the Early 2000s".

Teaching Experience

W hile at Crane, Kayleigh created and developed relevant and engaging music curriculums for her practicum students. She has taught those lessons in several practicum courses in the Potsdam area, including:

Kayleigh has also served as the Music Director for Clarkson University’s a cappella groups for the last two years, where she taught music, individual & group singing techniques for 6 hours a week to non-music majors with varying levels of experience and skill. Since 2016, she has worked as Discovery Counselor for Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts, where she has supervised groups of students from Pre-K to 2nd grade to facilitate an enriching and creative summer camp experience. In 2019, Kayleigh also worked as a Kindergarten Classroom Aide for Erie 1 BOCES Summer School in Maryvale, NY.
Kayleigh has been teaching music lessons for over four years, and strives to provide her students with relevant experiences and lifelong musicianship skills. Kayleigh offers engaging musical instruction tailored to the needs, skills, and genres of individual students. Much of her teaching experience is working with children and young adult musicians.

Kayleigh has completed over 100 hours of teaching observation at elementary, middle and high schools in NYS. She just completed her student teaching experience in the Hudson Valley, and earned her NYS Teaching certification on January 3, 2021.
She will begin teaching General Music and Choir at Selden Middle School beginning February 1, 2021.
